Kiss Me, Kate at BCP
Beaumont Community Players (BCP) will open its 2018-2019 Texas Strong Season (#BCPTexasstrong) with the timeless classic “Kiss Me, Kate.” The popular musical will be performed at the Betty Greenberg Center for Performing Arts located at 4155 Laurel St in Beaumont. The show plays September 14-29 with seven evening performances at 7:30 pm and a matinee at 2 pm on Saturday, September 22. BCP icon and fan favorite Paula Bothe the director of Kiss Me, Kate had this to say about the upcoming production-
“Kiss Me, Kate is Cole Porter’s most popular work. The show has a large variety of hit songs that are smoothly integrated into the plot. The score has everything from jazz to pop to a Viennese Waltz and the show is very funny. The cast features some faces familiar to BCP and exciting new talent as well.”
The original 1949 production of Kiss Me, Kate ran for more than 1,000 performances on Broadway and won the first Tony Award for Best Musical. It was recently announced that the cast album will be added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.
Kiss Me, Kate features show-stopping dance numbers, Shakespeare-quoting mobsters, and a knockout score including “Another Op’nin’, Another Show,” “Wunderbar,” “So In Love,” and “Brush Up Your Shakespeare.” Get ready for a sizzling evening that’s simply “Too Darn Hot”!
