Scarecrow Festival at Shangri La Garden Shangri La Garden’s 9th Annual Scarecrow Festival is back and more festive than ever! This year’s festival takes place from October 10 through November 3, 2018 and features dozens of unique scarecrow designs, thousands of pumpkins, and autumn decorations displayed throughout Shangri La Gardens. Created by talented people from community organizations, businesses, schools, churches and families, scarecrow designs range from funny to clever to wacky and weird! For sure, no two scarecrows are ever the same! In this friendly competition, visitors are asked to vote for their favorite scarecrow. Winners will be announced on November 3, 2018, at Autumn Fair. Tri-Agency Citizen’s Police Academy at Beaumont Police The Citizen’s Police Academy is a FREE 15 week training program for adults 18 and up, designed to educate and expose community members to the operations of Law Enforcement. The program is held two times each year and participants must apply and be registered to participate. Parent’s Night Out at BCM MONTHLY – Every 3rd Friday of the Month Parent’s did you know that each month the Beaumont Children’s Museum keeps its doors open late for kids to have some fun while the you have your night out. Drop your kids off at the Children’s Museum between 6-7PM for them to enjoy a night of crafts, science, games, pizza and movie, and most importantly free play. Pick up is between 9PM – 10PM. Children must be 3 years of age and potty-trained to stay for this night out. 1st child is $25 for the night and 2nd child or more includes a $5 discount. All members with your membership card will receive an additional $5 discount per child. Monsters in the Park at Doornbos Park Please join us at Doornbos Park for our 5th Annual Monsters in the Park! This fun family event will include a kids and pets costume contest, Nightmare Before Christmas showing on the lawn, and activities for the kids including a haunted train ride! Pumpkin Walk and Haunted Halloween Tour at John Jay French Museum Get ready for our annual Beaumont Heritage Society Pumpkin Walk and Haunted Halloween Tour taking place on Saturday, October 20th on the grounds of the historic John Jay French Museum from 6 pm – 9 pm! Use your creativity to decorate or carve a pumpkin and enter it in our contest. The “Best” pumpkin in several categories will be selected by ballot and prizes will be awarded, so gather your friends and family to come vote on your favorites! This event will also include a “haunted” tour of the 1845 French home with costumed actors portraying departed French family members, a haunted hay ride of the grounds, and a pumpkin craft for the kids (while they last). Cops & Kids Halloween Carnival at The Civic Center The Cops & Kids Halloween Carnival is a free citywide personal safety and crime prevention festival targeting school aged children and their parents. Food, entertainment, amusements and information booths are backdrops of this project and offer children a chance to interact with officers in a fun, stress-free environment that improves trust and builds better relationships between cops and kids. Self-Advocate Meeting The Southeast Texas Self Advocates (SETX/SA) is an organization of adults ages 18 and up with and without developmental disabilities run entirely by it’s members. The organization’s goal is to improve the quality of life for people living with disabilities in Southeast Texas through leadership, education, and community service opportunities. The organization is an affiliated chapter of the Texas Advocates and a program within The Arc of Texas and The Arc of Greater Beaumont. St. Mark’s Chili Supper & Bazaar Chili Supper and Bazaar is one of the primary fundraisers of the ECW (Episcopal Church Women) of St. Mark’s Beaumont. For over 70 years the members of St. Mark’s Church have cooked and served Chili to the Beaumont Community. The funds raised from Chili Supper and the Treasure House enable the ECW to help local community service organizations such as CASA, Some Other Place and St. Mark’s Emergency Assistance Fund. The ECW also provides Scholarships to All Saints Episcopal School and Camp Allen. ECW The ECW (Episcopal Church Women) of St. Mark’s is the fellowship of ALL women of the Church with the purpose of empowering each other to live the life for which Christ called us. We join together sharing His love through outreach, fellowship and spiritual growth. Through the years, men have also become involved with the ECW and they continue to serve with us on various committees. Every year, thanks to funds raised from our famous Chili Supper and Bazaarand the Treasure House resale shop, the ECW was able to give grants to over twenty community organizations.
