Scarecrow Festival at Shangri La Garden Shangri La Garden’s 9th Annual Scarecrow Festival is back and more festive than ever! This year’s festival takes place from October 10 through November 3, 2018 and features dozens of unique scarecrow designs, thousands of pumpkins, and autumn decorations displayed throughout Shangri La Gardens. Created by talented people from community organizations, businesses, schools, churches and families, scarecrow designs range from funny to clever to wacky and weird! For sure, no two scarecrows are ever the same! In this friendly competition, visitors are asked to vote for their favorite scarecrow. Winners will be announced on November 3, 2018, at Autumn Fair. Kate is originally from Nederland, TX and will be staying at Stable-Spirit from Oct. 17 – 20, 2018 to learn about our programs. Gusher Re-enactment at Spindletop-Gladys Boomtown The Lucas Gusher gave up its riches for nine days before Anthony Lucas and the Hamill brothers could get the well under control. We re-create the gusher using water and only run it for about 2 minutes. But it is always fun to watch how high the water will blow and what direction the spray will take. St. Mark’s Chili Supper & Bazaar Chili Supper and Bazaar is one of the primary fundraisers of the ECW (Episcopal Church Women) of St. Mark’s Beaumont. For over 70 years the members of St. Mark’s Church have cooked and served Chili to the Beaumont Community. The funds raised from Chili Supper and the Treasure House enable the ECW to help local community service organizations such as CASA, Some Other Place and St. Mark’s Emergency Assistance Fund. The ECW also provides Scholarships to All Saints Episcopal School and Camp Allen. ECW The ECW (Episcopal Church Women) of St. Mark’s is the fellowship of ALL women of the Church with the purpose of empowering each other to live the life for which Christ called us. We join together sharing His love through outreach, fellowship and spiritual growth. Through the years, men have also become involved with the ECW and they continue to serve with us on various committees. Every year, thanks to funds raised from our famous Chili Supper and Bazaarand the Treasure House resale shop, the ECW was able to give grants to over twenty community organizations.
