Intermediate Bladesmith Class-Short Sword at Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Have you already taken the basic bladesmith class and want to learn more? This is the class for you. You must have already taken the Basic Bladesmith class (being offered on September 29.) This class can only have 5 students so reserve your spot today. The age limit is 16 and older-students under 18 need a parent with them that day. Because of the intensity involved and materials, this class will be $150. Governor’s Resource Providers Workshop at Bowers Civic Center We are excited to announce the Governor’s Small Business Forum in Port Arthur, Texas to be held from from 8:00am – 12:00pm on October 18, 2018. Partnered with the Texas Workforce Commission, Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce and the Lamar State College – Port Arthur, the Governor’s Small Business Service Provider Workshops provide an opportunity for small business resource providers, such as business lenders, business-oriented non-profits, and local, regional, state and federal agencies, to connect and build a regional network to assist small businesses in their communities. Small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs are invited to attend the Workshops to receive hands-on assistance from the resource providers and gather the information needed to start and grow their businesses. Basic Photography Class at Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown On October 13, we will have our popular basic photography class. It will be $75 with a $50 nonrefundable deposit. We have room for 12 students aged 13 and above. Any student between ages 13-16 need a paying parent that accompanies them. Some of the things that will be covered during this class are: Gear – learning which lenses are best for which scenarios Manual mode – how to know what settings to use without setting your camera to Auto Aperture, ISO, and Shutter Speed – how these three elements work together to achieve the correct exposure Composition – learning what is traditionally most appealing to the eye and putting your own twist on it Interactions – we will also explore how to get your subjects to interact with each other and or yourself so that you can capture what you want to capture Gear needed for this class – DSLR camera and at least one lens. Basic Leatherworking Class at Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Did you know leather is one of man’s earliest and most useful discoveries? It protected early man from the elements. Later, it was used to make sandals, clothes, gloves, buckets and more. During the industrial age, it was used to make belts for machinery. Due to its durability and comfort, leather has been used for seating throughout the history of transportation and furniture. Spindletop Gladys City Museum is excited to announce its next Leather Working Class scheduled for September 29 at 10 A.M.. Students will get to make a phone case while learning how to cut, tool and dye leather. They will add their own creative design. The class will be taught by Shane Granger, a self-taught leather worker who produces products such as knife sheaths, pistol holsters and belts. Students can see Granger’s work on his Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/shane.granger.79). The cost is $125 with a $50 nonrefundable deposit. There is room for 10 people to take the class.
