MakerSpace – Butterfly Feeders at BCM On May 12th’s Saturday Workshops, we will be making Butterfly Feeders. The kids will learn more about Butterflys and what they eat, what flowers attract butterflies here in SETX, and why butterflys have colorful wings during this workshop. The cost is an aditional $3 per participant in the workshop. If parents are not participating in the workshop but want to be there to help their child, there will be no charge for the parent. Maker Space is a facilitated workshop area within the museum where visitors make, create, tinker, invent, innovate, discover, and do so much more. In this facilitated space, children and youth will become participatory learners by uncovering their talents, needs, and interests by making, producing, solving, creating, collaborating and thinking.

Basic Leatherworking Class at Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown BEAUMONT –Did you know leather is one of man’s earliest and most useful discoveries? It protected early man from the elements. Later, it was used to make sandals, clothes, gloves, buckets and more. During the industrial age, it was used to make belts for machinery. Due to its durability and comfort, leather has been used for seating throughout the history of transportation and furniture. Spindletop Gladys City Museum is excited to announce its next Leather Working Class scheduled for May 19 at 10 a.m. Students will get to make a phone case while learning how to cut, tool and dye leather. They will add their own creative design. The class will be taught by Shane Granger, a self-taught leather worker who produces products such as knife sheaths, pistol holsters and belts. Students can see Granger’s work on his Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/shane.granger.79). The cost is $125 with a $50 nonrefundable deposit. There is room for 10 people to take the class. Julian Franklin’s Magic Workshop at Silsbee Public Library Magic Workshop-Julian teaches your teen patrons magic tricks; not silly little “kid tricks”, but the real magic of working pros. He teaches some of the same magic tricks he used in his experience as a professional close-up magician using simple cards, rubber bands, and other household objects.
